I believe purposeful, concentrated thinking is a prerequisite to success in every facet of life. Our actions inevitably find their roots in our thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes. Thinking then, is an important prerequisite when it comes to loving God.
Thought life and the diligent, rigorous use of our minds is something that is modeled in the pages of the Old Testament, to Jesus’ ‘Great Commandment’ in the Gospels, and the Apostle Paul’s teaching on renewal in the believer’s life in his Epistles.
This video is actually an advertisement for the national conference of christian theologian and pastor, John Piper, that is titled, Think: The Life of the Mind and the Love of God. Though I wish I could be in attendance of this October summit, this is not my endorsement of the event. I just really enjoyed it’s insights on the mind and the connection of our intellect to the worship of God. Enjoy!
“…I do not feel obligated to believe that same God who has endowed us with senses, reason and intellect has intended to forgo their use …”
Galileo, “Letter to Christina of Tuscany: Science and Scripture.”
“So I turned my mind to understand, to investigate and to search out wisdom and the scheme of things…”
“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ “
